Bernice Littlefield

Services for Bernice Littlefield, 74, of Locust Grove, were held Friday, April 27, 2001, at 2pm in the Peggs Community Church. Rev. Rex Hendrickson, Rev. Louis Maxwell, and Rev. Mike Parish officiated, with interment following in the New Home Cemetery in Peggs . Services were under the direction of the Locust Grove Funeral Home.

Mrs. Littlefield was born July 26, 1926, in Bartlesville, to Louis T. and Martha (Brooks) Burchett. She grew up and attended school in rural Cherokee County. She worked at the U.S. arsenal in Benicia, California during WWII, and she was very proud of her contribution to the war effort. She married Deward J. Littlefield on December 24, 1945, in Locust Grove. She also worked for a time at Spartan Aeronautics in Tulsa, but was mainly a homemaker, raising her family here in Locust Grove. She enjoyed gardening and canning, crappie fishing, and cooking for her kids and grandkids. She was a member of the Peggs Community Church, and also a charter member of the Little Rock Free Will Baptist Church since 1949.

She passed from this life on Tuesday, April 24, 2001, at her home south of Locust Grove. She is survived by her husband Deward J. Littlefield, Sr. of the home; sons Bill and wife Donna Littlefield, Gerald and wife Doris Littlefield, D.J. and wife Brenda Littlefield, all of Locust Grove; daughter Jacqueline and husband Mike Pendleton of Locust Grove; sisters Ola "Dode" Williams and Ardean Patterson, both of California, Edna Sanders, Elsie and husband Gene Nicholson, and Ardella Caldwell, all of Locust Grove, and Louella Moss of Spiro; eight grandchildren, Tammy Puffinbarger, Tonya Daily, Gerald Douglas Littlefiled, Jr., Danielle Marie, Trey, and Billy Littlefield, Kyle and Tristan Pendelton; eight great-grandchildren, Dustin and Daren Puffinbarger, Trent and Chisolm Daily, Tyler, Dalton, Jordan, and Chloe Littlefield; many nieces, nephews, and a host of friends. She was preceded in death by both parents; brothers Roy, Art, Ellis, and Louis Burchett, Jr.; sister Ethel Nichols; and granddaughter Angela Aleece Littlefield.
