Bobby J. Norris
November 4, 1924 - May 13, 2002
 

Memorial services for Bobby J. Norris, 77, of Locust Grove, were held Monday, May 20, 2002, at 11:00am in the Fort Gibson National Cemetery.  Masonic rites were provided by Covey Masonic Lodge #460, Locust Grove.

Mr. Norris was born November 4, 1924, in Royce City, Texas, to Clyde and Velma Gossett Norris.  He grew up in Royce City, Glenrose, and the Dallas area, entering the U.S. Navy September 1, 1943.  He completed electrician school and served in World War II before his honorable discharge as Electrician’s Mate Second Class on May 9, 1946.  His decorations included the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, WWII Victory Medal, and American Campaign Medal.

He returned to the Dallas area and went to work for the Dallas Morning News, where he worked for 35 years and retired as a typesetter in 1986.  He married Onnie Hicks on January 14, 1972 in Mesquite, Texas.  They moved to the Locust Grove area in May 1996 from Seagoville, Texas.

He enjoyed spending time in the outdoors, fishing, gardening, working in his yard, feeding and watching the birds.  He also liked cracking pecans, and had enjoyed bow hunting in earlier years.

He had been a member of the Masonic Lodges in Oak Cliff and Seagoville, and later Covey Masonic Lodge #460 in Locust Grove.  He was of the Presbyterian faith.  He passed from this life on Monday, May 13, 2002, in Tulsa.

He is survived by his wife Onnie Norris of the home; sons David Norris of Washington, DC, Dennis and wife Betsy Norris of Dallas, Wesley and wife Kristi Norris of Tulsa; daughter Cecelia and husband Gene Adcock of Locust Grove; brother Darrell and wife Sally Norris of Carrollton, TX; sister-in-law Joy and husband Heyward Gandy of Hartsville, SC; 11 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by both parents and two sisters, Margaret White and Peggy Fleming.

Friends are donating in his memory to the American Lung Association.
