Funeral services
for Clarence Hughes, 87, of Locust Grove, were held Saturday, November
9, 2002, at 2pm in the Little Rock Indian Baptist Church. Pastors Rick
Condit and Lewis Ross officiated. Interment followed in the Ballou
Cemetery, with services under the direction of the Locust Grove
Funeral Home.
Mr. Hughes was born April 4, 1915, in Rose, to William and Katie (Judge) Hughes. He grew up in the Rose area and attended the Smith Chapel school. He entered the US Army in 1942 and served during World War II, including campaigns in Bismark, Archipelago, New Guinea and the Southern Philippines. He was honorably discharged in 1945, having earned the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with two Bronze Stars and the Good Conduct Medal. He worked in construction for many years, retiring in 1977. He enjoyed walks in the woods, fishing, and spending time outdoors. He was a member of the American Legion and was of the Baptist Faith. He passed from this life on Thursday, November 7, 2002, in Locust Grove, at the age of 87 years, 7 months, and 4 days. He is survived by a nephew, Charles Colvin of the home, two great-nephews and numerous cousins. He was preceded in death by both parents and a sister, Kye Hughes. |
