Dafford D. "Joe" Lemons
August 2, 1922 - November 21, 2003
 
Graveside services for Dafford D. "Joe" Lemons, 81, of Locust Grove, were held Monday, November 24, 2003, at 2:00pm in the Blanchard Cemetery, Blanchard, Oklahoma. Pastor William "Bill" Lemons officiated, with services under the direction of the Locust Grove Funeral Home.

Mr. Lemons was born August 2, 1922, in Konawa, Oklahoma, to William Washington and Georgia Ann (Cross) Lemons. He passed from this life on Friday, November 21, 2003, in Pryor.

He grew up in Blanchard and graduated from Blanchard High School before entering the U.S. Army on March 29, 1943. He was honorably discharged August 4, 1946, after serving during World War II and earning the American Campaign Medal and World War II Victory Medal.

He was married to Viola "Vicki" Morrill on September 8, 1958, in Vista, California. He came to the Locust Grove area in 1970 upon his retirement from North American Rockwell in Tulsa, where he worked as a draftsman. He enjoyed watching sports and coaching baseball and football throughout his sons’ school years. He also liked playing cards, and he loved spending time with his grandkids. He was a member of the Cedar Crest Baptist Church.

He is survived by two sons, Curtis Mansfield of Yuma, Arizona, William and wife Brenda Lemons of Tulsa; three daughters, Debbie and husband Joe Carey of Stidham, Oklahoma, Celeste and husband Lewis Coverdell, and JoElla Spencer, all of Locust Grove; a sister, Belle Hogan of California; nine grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by both parents; his wife Viola "Vicki" Lemons; and a granddaughter, Madison Lemons.
