Services for Ella Lorene Giles,
77, of Locust Grove, were held Friday, April 4, 2003, at 10:00am in
the New Hogan Free Will Baptist Church. Rev. Louis Maxwell and Rev.
Jimmy Stokes officiated, with interment following in Fairview
Cemetery, Pryor. Services were under the direction of the Locust Grove
Funeral Home.
Mrs. Giles was born July 12, 1925, in Rose, to Charles and Lillie (Gillum) Hanna. She grew up in Mayes County, attending schools in Rose, Locust Grove, and Pryor. She married Adolph Barnes on July 5, 1941. She enjoyed being a devoted wife and mother. Some time after her first husband’s passing, she met and later married Elmer "Shorty" Giles on December 3, 1966. She helped him work cattle on their ranch; she also enjoyed fishing and raising a beautiful vegetable garden. Her other favorite pastimes included crocheting doilies and tablecloths, and feeding the birds. She was of the Baptist faith. She passed from this life on Tuesday, April 1, 2003, in Pryor. She is survived by her daughter, Joyce Cochran of Locust Grove; sister Ethel Bumgardner of Pryor; three grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by both parents; husbands Adolph Barnes and Elmer "Shorty" Giles; son Leon Barnes; brother Homer Hanna; and three sisters, Carrie Graves, Myrtle Pitts, and Della Hudson. |
