Funeral services for Edna L.
Sanders, 91, of Locust Grove, were held Friday, February 6, 2004, at
2:00pm in the First Baptist Church of Locust Grove. Pastor Larry McDonald
officiated, with interment following in Hogan Cemetery. Services were
under the direction of the Locust Grove Funeral Home.
Mrs. Sanders was born October 20, 1912, in Tahlequah, to Lewis T. and Martha (Brooks) Burchett. She grew up in northeastern Oklahoma, and had attended school in Bartlesville, as well as the Lone Star School near Yonkers. She was married to Cleo Sanders in Arizona, and had worked as a machine gun belt assembler in Benecia, California, during World War II. She was very interested in politics, and she had worked on several election boards while she lived in 29 Palms, California from 1960-1983. She then moved to Paso Robles, California, and had been in the Locust Grove area since 1995. She enjoyed reading, especially old novels, poetry, and the Bible. She was active in the women’s activities at church in earlier years, teaching Sunday school and vacation Bible school. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Locust Grove. She passed from this life on Tuesday, February 3, 2004, in Pryor. She is survived by a son, Mike and wife Cathy Sanders of Streamwood, Illinois; five sisters, Louella Moss of Spiro, Ola Mae "Dode" Williams and Ardean Patterson, both of Woodlake, California, Ardella Caldwell, Elsie and husband Gene Nicholson, all of Locust Grove; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, great-great-nieces and great-great nephews. She was preceded in death by both parents; her husband Cleo Sanders in 1996; four brothers, L.T. Burchett, Jr., Ellis Burchett, Roy Burchett, and Art Burchett; and two sisters, Ethel Nichols and Bernice Littlefield. | |
