Funeral services for Jessie Tollison,
84, of Locust Grove, were held Thursday, January 22, 2004, at 2:00pm in
the Chapel at New Home Cemetery, Peggs. Rev. Jess Stipes officiated, with
services under the direction of the Locust Grove Funeral Home.
Mrs. Tollison was born June 6, 1919, in Bald Hill, Oklahoma, to Jess and Mammie Della (Herman) Simmons. She grew up in the Peggs area, where she had attended the Lucky School. She lived for several years in Visalia, California, where she worked as a custodian for the city. She was a member of the Rebekah Lodge in California. She returned to the Locust Grove area in 1991 from Visalia. Some of her favorite pastimes included tracing family genealogy, collecting angel figurines, and reading. She was interested in politics, and she enjoyed her jewelry collection. She loved being a part of family gatherings. She was a Bible believing Christian. She passed from this life on Sunday, January 18, 2004, in Locust Grove. She is survived by three sons, Leroy and wife Linda Burchett of Locust Grove, Bob and wife Connie Burchett of Yakima, Washington, J.C. and wife Tina Coulter of Lamore, California; one daughter, Shirlee and husband Charlie Rogers of Leach; three brothers, Paul Simmons and Elmo Simmons, both of Peggs, R.J. and wife Sondra Simmons of Collinsville; three sisters, Jerry Simmons of Broken Arrow, Edith Wing of Redding, California, and Pearl Whitehead of Tulare, California; 12 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, eight great-great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by both parents, one brother, one sister, and a granddaughter. | |
