Jimmie Ward, 1920 - 2004Graveside services for Jimmie Ward, 83, of Locust Grove, were held Friday, May 7, 2004, at 11:00am in the New Home Cemetery, Peggs. Pastor Al Storie officiated, with services under the direction of the Locust Grove Funeral Home.

Mr. Ward was born October 11, 1920, in Peggs, to Thomas Charles and Nora Ozella (Terrell) Ward. He passed from this life on Wednesday, May 5, 2004, at his home near Locust Grove.

He grew up in the Peggs area, attending school at Peggs and the Union Valley School in Cherokee County.  He was a lifetime resident of the Peggs and Locust Grove area. He was a Veteran of World War II, entering the U.S. Navy on September 15, 1942, and being honorably discharged February 13, 1946. He was married to Jane Nichols on September 3, 1965, in Langley. He worked for many years as an iron worker, retiring in 1982.

He was a member for over 50 years of both the Locust Grove VFW Post 3573 and Covey Masonic Lodge No. 460. He was also a retired member of Ironworkers Local 584 in Tulsa. He enjoyed camping, fishing, and hunting, as well as vegetable gardening. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife Jane Ward of the home; daughter Joyce and husband Terry Bailey of Peggs; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by both parents; his brother Thomas “Buster” Ward, and two sisters, Opal Kring and Rosie Scroggins.
