Monroe W. Coger, 1924 - 2004Monroe W. Coger, 80, of Locust Grove, died Wednesday, May 19, 2004, in Muskogee. He was born January 28, 1924, in Kingston, Arkansas, to Jason Monroe and Laura (Knight) Coger

He grew up in the Locust Grove area, and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was married to Barbara Tisher in Las Vegas in 1973. He worked for many years as a carpenter in southern California, retiring to Locust Grove in 1980 from Camarillo, California.

Mr. Coger was an accomplished gardener. He enjoyed raising all kinds of fruits and vegetables, and working to keep his yard beautiful. Some of his other favorite pastimes were target shooting and fishing. He loved spending time with his family.

He is survived by daughters Janis Emeterio of Tracy, California, and Carolyn “Muffin” Cabiness of Oceanside, California; son Ronnie Coger of California; brother Otto Coger of Locust Grove; five sisters, Frances Sanford, Sophie Stone, Luree Satterfield and Cleo Storie all of Locust Grove, and Hazel Martin of Tulsa; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by both parents; brothers Marvin and Clyde Coger; and his wife Barbara.
