Opal E. McFarland

Services for Opal E. McFarland, 88, of Locust Grove, were held Monday, May 14, 2001, at 2pm in the Lighthouse Assembly of God Church. Rev. David Downing and Rev. Harry Jackson officiated, with interment following in Hogan Cemetery. Services were under the direction of the Locust Grove Funeral Home.

Mrs. McFarland was born June 26, 1912, in Murphy, to Caleb Henry and Alice (Washburn) Martin. She grew up and attended grade school in Murphy, and she married O.N. "Cotton" McFarland there on October 7, 1931. She enjoyed being a dedicated homemaker, and she also liked flower gardening, fishing, and reading. She enjoyed crocheting, and she created many beautiful afghans. She also liked dining out, and she loved to get in the car with her husband and go sightseeing. She was a member of the Lighthouse Assembly of God Church, and a lifetime resident of the Locust Grove area.

She passed from this life on Thursday, May 10, 2001, in Pryor. She is survived by her husband of 69 years, Cotton McFarland of the home; one son, Joe and wife Linda McFarland of Locust Grove; three daughters, Mary and husband Jeff Nichols of Locust Grove, Louise and husband Gene Link of Pryor, Ruth Ellen and Rev. David Downing of Wynona; daughter-in-law Louise McFarland of Wagoner; brother Bill and wife Irene Martin of Chouteau; sister Ruby Glover of Ontario, California; ten grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of friends. She was preceded in death by both parents, daughter Betty June, son Newt, brother Buck Martin, and sisters Ethel Abernathy, Gid Adair, and Ivy Sasser.
