Services for
Perry E. Winburn, Sr., 69, of Locust Grove, were held Tuesday, April
16, 2002, at 1pm in the First United Methodist Church of Locust Grove,
Pastor Mark Watson officiating. A graveside committal service followed
at 3:30pm in the Veterans Field of Honor of Floral Haven Cemetery,
Broken Arrow. Services were entrusted to the care of Locust Grove
Funeral Home.
Mr. Winburn was born August 30, 1932, in Tulsa, to Perry E. and Grace Lee (Morgan) Winburn. He grew up in the Tulsa area and graduated from Will Rogers High School in 1950. He met Harriett Broadhurst, and the couple married on September 6, 1952, in Tulsa. He served his country in the U.S. Army, and later came to work as an aircraft mechanic for American Airlines in Tulsa. Perry retired in 1988, and the Winburns moved to the Locust Grove area in 1990. He was a member of the Locust Grove First United Methodist Church. He was an accomplished artist and craftsman, making knives, jewelry, walking sticks, and Indian bows. His work earned awards several years running at the Five Civilized Tribes Art Show in Muskogee. He was also a talented musician, playing piano, banjo, fiddle, and harmonica. He especially enjoyed participating in pre-1840’s style re-enactment rendezvous, and had organized the encampment at the Old Saline Courthouse Craft Show & Rendezvous held each September. He passed from this life on Friday, April 12, 2002, in Tulsa, at the age of 69 years, seven months, and 13 days. He is survived by his wife Harriett of the home; son Perry Winburn, Jr. of Tulsa; three daughters, Teresa and husand Gerald Ford of Tulsa, Brenda and husband Ross Ridling of Owasso, and Susan Frazier of Collinsville; sister Margie Clark of Tulsa; ten grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by both parents and two sisters, Virgie Stewart and Frances Orr. |
