William F. "Bill" Dutton
November 27, 1925 - June 25, 2002
 

Services for William F. “Bill” Dutton, 76, of Locust Grove, were  held Friday, June 28, 2002, at 2:00pm in the Cornerstone Outreach Church.  Rev. Lloyd Willhite officiated, with interment following in Hogan Cemetery.  Services were under the direction of the Locust Grove Funeral Home.

Mr. Dutton was born November 27, 1925, in Bartlesville, to William F. (Sr.) and Pearl Shrum Dutton.  He grew up in the Tulsa area and graduated from Tulsa Central High School.  He entered the US Navy on February 11, 1944, and served during WWII at NTS, Farragut, Idaho, and the USN Operating Base in Kodiak,Alaska.  He was honorably discharged a Ship’s Cook Third Class on March 13, 1946.  His decorations included the WWII Victory Medal, American Theatre and Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal.

He married Wanda Lee Cowan on October 12, 1984, in Miami, Oklahoma.  He worked for Seismograph Service Corp in Tulsa for 40 years, retiring as an Administrator in 1985.  He had lived in the Locust Grove area for about the last 20 years.

He was a member of the Kingdom Life Tabernacle in Porter, and an active member of VFW Post 3573 in Locust Grove.  He was also active in the Senior Citizens community, and had recently been elected President of the Locust Grove Go-Getters.  His hobbies included yard work and woodworking, and he enjoyed spending time with his wife Wanda.

He was a genuine man who could put a smile on the face of everyone he met.  Affectionately known as “Papaw” to his grandchildren, he will be greatly missed but never forgotten by those who knew and loved him.  Memories of “Papaw” will continue to make all of his family and friends smile.  He passed from this life on Tuesday, June 25, 2002, in Tulsa.

He is survived by his wife Wanda Dutton of the home; sons Jack Dutton of Houston, TX, Earl Wayne and Brenda Harris of Locust Grove; daughters Judy and Kevin Shira of Sacramento, CA, Rhonda and Tony Horne of Locust Grove; brother-in-law Donald Foster; seven grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by both parents, and his first wife George Ann Dutton.
