Funeral Services for Walter Ray
Harvey, 75, of Spavinaw, were held Saturday, December 20, 2003, at 10:00am
in Stephens Memorial Chapel, Pryor. Rev. Lorne Beck and Rev. Jean Allison
officiated, with interment following in Spavinaw-Strang Cemetery. Services
were under the direction of the Locust Grove Funeral Home.
Mr. Harvey was born October 22, 1928, in Cayuga, Texas, to James J. and Eleanor (Spivey) Harvey. He passed from this life on Thursday, December 18, 2003, at his home near Spavinaw. He grew up mostly in Texas, moving to California with his family as a teenager. He married Verla Hammontree on August 22, 1955, in Riverside, California. He worked as a carpenter, and was a 50 year member of the Carpenters Union in California. He came to the Spavinaw area in 1975. Besides his carpentry work, Mr. Harvey enjoyed training and raising horses, as well as fishing. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandkids, and he always enjoyed helping his fellow man. He was of the Baptist faith. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Verla Harvey of the home; two sons, Paul and wife Brenda Harvey of Spavinaw, Chris and wife Christina Harvey of Broken Arrow; two daughters, Caren and husband Dallas Plumlee of Salina, and Donna Harvey of Spavinaw; sister Jean and husband Bob Gass, brother J.D. and wife Betty Harvey, all of Spavinaw; step-brother Phil and wife Brenda Ostrom of Eugene, Oregon; 13 grandchildren; one great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by both parents; four brothers, Leroy, Lewis, Larry, and Gary Harvey; and two sons, Roger and Glenn Harvey. | |
