M.W. "Whistle" Markham
August 14, 1912 - April 7, 2002
 
Services for M.W. "Whistle" Markham, 89, of Locust Grove, were held Tuesday, April 9, 2002, at 1pm in the Cowboy Junction Church of Vinita. Dr. Wade Markham officiated, with graveside services following at 3pm in Hogan Cemetery, Locust Grove. Services were under the direction of the Locust Grove Funeral Home.

Mr. Markham was born August 14, 1912, in Locust Grove, to Walter Adair and Ella Venora (Downing) Markham.  He grew up in the Locust Grove area and graduated from Locust Grove High School. On April 19, 1930, he married Maudine Rush in Wagoner. He was a cattle rancher for many years.

He was a very active member of Locust Grove’s "Go-Getters" senior citizens group, and had served as President. He enjoyed playing dominoes, and he loved having big family gatherings and spending time with his kids and grandkids. Though usually a very quiet man, he was full of wisdom. He was a Christian and he loved God.  He passed from this life on Sunday, April 7, 2002, in Tulsa, at the age of 89 years, seven months, and 24 days.

He is survived by two sons, Dr. Wade and wife Louise Markham of Vinita, and Maurice Markham of Chicago; two daughters, Pat and husband Leroy Ragsdale of Pryor, Betsy and husband Jimmy Willis of Catoosa; one sister, Mary Hickam of Locust Grove; 15 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson. He was preceded in death by both parents; a son, Sidney Thomas Markham; brother Walter "Brother" Markham; his wife Maudine Markham; and great-grandson Joey Lloyd.
