William Hollis Peoples

Funeral services for William Hollis "Pete" Peoples, 67, of Locust Grove, wree held Wednesday, November 5, 2003, at 2:00pm in the Ballou Baptist Church. Rev. Will Fine officiated, with interment following in the Ballou Cemetery. Services were under the direction of the Locust Grove Funeral Home.

Mr. Peoples was born October 31, 1936, in Locust Grove, to William and Hester (Watkins) Peoples. He passed from this life on Sunday, November 2, 2003, in Tulsa.

He grew up in the Locust Grove area, attending the Ballou School and Locust Grove schools. He served one enlistment in the U.S. Navy and two in the Army, including service in Korea, before he was honorably discharged at Ft. Sill on April 14, 1969. His decorations included the National Defense Service Medal. Aside from his military service, he lived in the Locust Grove area most of his life.

He worked in several different occupations, including hotel management, metal building construction, as a truck driver and also a boilermaker. Some of his favorite pastimes were hunting and fishing, playing bingo, playing the guitar and singing. He also loved being around children, and taking care of people. He had been a member of VFW Post #3573 in Locust Grove. He was of the Baptist faith.

He is survived by two sons, William H. Peoples, Jr. of Skiatook, and Randy Lynn Peoples of Tulsa; two daughters, Ramona I. Peoples of White Oak, and Hope Anne Coombes of Sperry; two step-daughters, Radonna Timmons and Paula Reese, both of Tulsa; one brother, Tuxie and wife Sandra Peoples of Locust Grove; four sisters, Sue and husband Henry Fine of Locust Grove, Annie Bell and husband Clebern Rice of Adair, Eva Mae and husband George Oxford of Hulbert, and Margaret Ann Peoples of Denver, Colorado; six grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by both parents; wife Hilda Peoples; and a step-daughter, Sharon Reese.
