Obituary for Terry Carter Palmore

Terry Carter Palmore was born January 18, 1941 in Stigler, OK to Robert Julian & Minnie Louella (Armes) Palmore. He departed this life on Friday, Friday 8, 2019 at his home in Locust Grove, OK at the age of 78 years & 21 days.

Growing up, Terry attended the Webster elementary in Tulsa, OK. At the age of 12, Terry’s family relocated to Locust Grove, where he completed the remainder of his school days, and graduated with the Locust Grove High School Class of 1959. Before graduating, on December 31, 1958, in Wagoner, OK, Terry & Virginia Kay Turner were united in marriage.

Terry served his country proudly in United States Air Force. He was trained in the Navy Seals Program & was attached to the U.S. Navy. After serving 20 years in the military, Terry retired in February 1981, as a Master Sergeant. His love for the water became more evident as he became certified as a National Association of Underwater Instructor (NAUI) & began SCUBA Diving lessons.

After his military retirement, Terry worked a short time driving a truck for Roger Cooper. He then went to work for N-REN, which later became Wil-Grow. He worked there for over 10 years, between the years 1981 & 1991. When Terry left Wil-Gro, he was the plant services coordinator.

Terry and his family have lived on their current homeplace for the past 42 years. Before that, they had lived in California for 8 years & Hawaii for 4 years. They also had spent a short time in Florida & Denver, Colorado. Terry loved to learn & was always a student. His intelligence was admired by many. Throughout the years, he took numerous courses at Northeastern Area Vo-Tech in Pryor, OK. There, he took classes for Small Engine Repair, Electric Starters, Machinist, Heating & Air, & Computer Literacy.

Because he had a desire to help others, Terry volunteered for the American Red Cross over the years. He enjoyed working with his cattle & going deep sea fishing with his son-in-law. Terry loved his family dearly, but above all, he loved spending time with his grandchildren. He will be missed by all that knew & loved him.

Terry is survived by: his wife of over 60 years, Virginia Kay Palmore, of the home; 1 daughter: Debra Ellen Benight & husband Ronnie of Owasso, OK; 2 granddaughters: Veronica Ellen Benight of Owasso, OK, & Katherine Vaughan Benight of Claremore, OK; 1 sister: Jardenella Walling of Kentucky;

Terry was preceded in death by: his parents; & 2 sons: Terry Carter Palmore, Jr. & Eric Carter Palmore.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, February 13, 2019, at the First Free Will Baptist Church in Locust Grove. Brother Shawn Bates will officiate. Interment will follow at the Hogan Cemetery in Locust Grove. Services have been entrusted to the Locust Grove Funeral Home.
