Obituary for Tommy Lee Smith

Tommy Smith was born January 10, 1949, in Tahlequah, Oklahoma, to Ted and Imogene (Tolson) Smith. He departed this life on Thursday, January 24, 2019, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, at the age of 70 years and 14 days.

Tommy was a graduate of the Tahlequah High School class of 1967. On March 25, 1969, in Stilwell, Oklahoma, Tommy and Debra Kay “Katie” Littlefield were united in marriage. Katie preceded him in death on February 23, 2013. Tommy has made Peggs his home for over 42 years. He had lived in Claremore and Westville for some time as well.

Tommy had worked road construction and drove a dump truck for Cherokee County. He later spent many years working as a tree trimmer. Tommy enjoyed working outdoors and gardening. He was known for tearing down stuff and building it back. He was a self-proclaimed “card shark” that never had proof to back it up.

Tommy enjoyed taking care of the many different animals he had over the years. He loved his family very much. Above all, Tommy loved being “Grandpa”. Tommy loved to cook, especially his very own “Papa Special”, cinnamon rolls, baby cakes, and “OMG” cake. He was loved by his family and many friends and will be missed dearly.

Tommy is survived by: 3 children: Jeffery Smith and wife Tonya of Locust Grove, Oklahoma, Ginger Coverdell of Rose, Oklahoma, and Kyle Smith and wife Pam of Tahlequah, Oklahoma; 11 grandchildren: Ashley Guynn, Dallas Smith and wife Janessa, Dustin Smith and wife Hayley, Stephanie Beals and husband Kyle, Marshall Smith and wife Kylea, Chase Coverdell and wife Carlie, Cody Guynn and wife Kim, Desirae Smith and fiancé Tucker Robertson, Ethan Smith, Tyler Smith, and Kenslee Smith; 9 great grandchildren; 1 brother: Teddy Smith and wife Ronda of Medimont, Idaho; 1 sister: Mary Lou Cole and husband David of Moody, Oklahoma; 2 brother-in-laws: Sammy Littlefield and wife Margaret of Peggs, Oklahoma and Kenny Littlefield and wife Jennifer of Peggs, Oklahoma; 2 sister-in-laws: Connie Bolay of Peggs, Oklahoma and Mickie Garner of Locust Grove, Oklahoma; 1 aunt: Maxine Tolson of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; special friends: Marsha and Jim Forst of Catoosa, Oklahoma; 2 adopted daughters: Rachel Weaver and Michele Underwood; numerous other relatives and a host of friends.

Tommy was preceded in death by: his parents; 1 son: Samuel Ted Smith; his father and mother-in-law: Lee and Virginia Littlefield; 1 brother: Robert Smith; and 1 sister: Debra Sue Smith; and above all, the love of his life and best friend for over 43 years: Debra Kay “Katie” Smith.

Funeral services were held 2:00 P.M., Monday, January 28, 2019, at the Peggs Community Church in Peggs, Oklahoma. Reverend Rex Hendrickson and Reverend Mike Parrish officiated. Interment followed at New Home Cemetery. Services were entrusted to the Locust Grove Funeral Home.
